BREAKING NEWS

Non-organic milk tests positive for illegal antibiotics, high levels of growth hormones and controversial pesticide contaminants.

Organic milk tests clean.

Milk is an important part of a healthy diet. It provides protein, fat, calcium and vitamin D, and for the youngest members of our population, it is especially critical as a main source of many nutrients. But not all milk is created equal. For nearly 15 years, studies have repeatedly shown that organic milk has a healthier nutritional profile. Organic milk contains more of the good omega 3 fatty acids, more antioxidants and a higher nutrient mineral content than conventional milk. Dairy cows under organic management eat more grass than those under conventional management and that difference in their diet results in more nutrient-rich milk. Now, a recent study conducted by scientists at Emory University in collaboration with The Organic Center found that organic milk is the cleanest choice for families. Researchers tested samples from milk purchased from the grocery store, to compare the differences in levels of antibiotics, growth hormones and pesticides in conventional and organic milk. The study found that a majority of samples of conventional milk tested POSITIVE for residues of antibiotics – two of which are banned from dairy production in the United States. The majority of conventional milk samples also tested POSITIVE for controversial pesticides. And, researchers found that residues of growth hormones in conventional milk were 20 times higher than in organic milk.

Kids and adults alike love dairy products: milk, yogurt, cheese, ice cream, butter, pizza, and more are all favorites in our kitchens and restaurants.

The Organic Center's new report - The Benefits of Organic Dairy - will help you understand why not all dairy products are created equal. The report explains new research findings that show that organic is an easy way to avoid contaminants in milk, giving consumers an option that doesn’t include even trace amounts of pesticides, antibiotics, or synthetic growth hormones.

The report highlights what’s special about the way organic dairy is produced, and why those differences are important for the health of the cows, the health and safety of your family, and the environment.
