This State of Science Review (SSR) provides an overview of the impacts of organic farming on the efficiency of energy use in several major crops and livestock production. The review encompasses both direct energy expenditures in routine farming operations and the impacts of organic farming on soil and water quality, the storage of carbon in the soil, and costs of production.
